The staff at Good Truckin’ Diner, a staple in the Lansing foodie scene for a decade, understands that full bellies lead to community.

“It all began with a vision to create a welcoming space where people could gather and enjoy delicious comfort food,” the diner’s website states. “Since then, the diner has become a beloved establishment, embraced by locals and visitors alike.”

As the name suggests, Good Truckin’ got its start as a food truck in 2014. The iconic location in REO Town, at 1107 S. Washington Ave., opened in 2017. The business opened its first space outside of Lansing last year, in Grand Rapids.

Good Truckin’ has been in Lansing since I moved here in 2015 and it has always been one of my favorite spots to eat. The space is cozy, eclectic and lively. I am impressed every time I visit by how attentive and caring the staff is, despite the restaurant usually being packed.

The menu is packed with classic diner faire with an emphasis on breakfast-omelets, breakfast burritos, breakfast sandwiches. There are plenty of lunch options including burgers and tacos as well. There are also seasonal dine-in specials every week, like this week’s Beetlejuice inspired dishes.

I tried, for the sake of journalism, to get something new when I visited, but Good Truckin’ is home to one of my favorite breakfast dishes – the Big Country Burrito. Smothered in country gravy and stuffed with fried chicken, bacon, scrambled eggs and cheddar cheese, it never disappoints.

The Hillbilly Fries are a must as well; you can’t go wrong with loaded fries in my opinion, but the crunch and saltiness of the waffle fries paired with the sweetness of the barbecue and tangy coleslaw is the perfect combination of flavors.

Something Good Truckin’ prides itself on is the no-nonsense approach to dietary restrictions. Plenty of vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options from sweet to savory are available on the menu with little to no substitutions.

My husband has Celiac disease and has had their tacos, loaded fries/tots and gluten free waffles with no cross-contamination issues. Getting to order off the same menu as everyone else adds to the comfortable environment for him.

Check out Good Truckin’ Diner any day of the week, 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., and see if it becomes one of your favorites, too!
