So, this week’s restaurant review is for the early risers – as in 5 a.m. early – who are in desperate need of prompt service and a good cup of coffee for a reasonable price.
Tim Hortons is an accessible and affordable option located at 728 S. Waverly Road in Lansing. I know it’s a chain and they don’t usually get reviewed, but I have to say the team at this location is truly what makes it a great place to grab a bagel for cheap.
I usually see Michelle or Jasmine, who always have a genuine smile to offer, again at 5 a.m., and who often ask the same question that just warms my wallet.
“Do you have your rewards card?”
I sadly do not most days, but that doesn’t stop them from checking every time. It’s a little thing, but I think it’s the little things that matter when the world is the way it is.
On my most recent visit I had a Caramel Macchiato, an Everything Bagel (adding chipotle sauce which is of peak importance) and a hash brown, all for $8.86.
My order aside, there are other wraps, donuts and plain bagel options. Tim Hortons also has a lunch menu that has all sorts of croissants and grilled bagel sandwiches.
I see the same people often, but the whole team really keeps it together even in the toughest morning shift. I once saw a guy throw his bag back inside the window at a girl and drive away.
When I got to her, I had to confirm that was what happened, because this poor girl was already readying my order as if she was, in fact, not just attacked with breakfast food.
With her in mind, I tip the people at the window whatever I can when I can. I also always try to muster a smile, because good service is near extinction and somedays those bagels really are everything.
