I recently decided to order takeout from a new Black-owned family restaurant, Valley Wings, located at 2398 Jolly Road, Unit 600 in Okemos.
Valley Wings offer bone-in wings, boneless wings and a variety of loaded fries. It offers up to 10 sauces to choose from, including both wet and dry.
The restaurant atmosphere feels like a place you would dine in with friends or family if you are grabbing a quick bite to eat.
The customer service was excellent. I was greeted as soon as I walked in. The employee answered any questions I had while also giving me recommendations.
I decided to go with a 10-piece traditional wing extra crispy. I ordered half hot, which is a dry rub flavor, and half mango habanero for my husband. I also got the chicken buffalo loaded fries, which come with chicken, buffalo sauce, ranch and shredded cheese.
The wait was only about 10 to 15 minutes long, but I was able to sit in the lobby and watch one of the two TVs that were displayed.
I was pleased to discover that my food was still hot by the time I arrived back home and was ready to dig in.
The wings were amazing, I usually would get buffalo sauce, but I wanted to try something different and I am glad that I did. The dry seasoning included red crushed peppers and other seasonings that made the flavor pop.
My husband enjoyed the mango habanero wings. He said the flavors were perfectly blended; not too sweet and not too hot.
The loaded fries were good, but I do wish they offered a smaller size option because it was a lot of food. Overall, I would give the fries a 7 out of 10 only because of the size. Plus I couldn’t add jalapeños, and the cheese wasn’t a melted cheese sauce.
I think Valley Wings has taken a place as my favorite wing spot, so I will definitely be going back.
