Looking for a hole in the wall restaurant with reasonable prices and phenomenal food to brag about to your friends? Take your appetite and head to Henry’s Place, located at 4926 Marsh Road in Okemos.
The outside is a little discouraging. It is in a strip mall that may have you rethinking ordering seafood of any sort. But once inside, I promise, all your qualms will quickly subside.
There are twinkly lights strung everywhere and hardwood tables or a very clean, sleek bar at which to sit. Every waitress or waiter I have ever encountered there has served me with an active memory and attentive listening skills which, to me, defines great service.
I went this weekend with one of my best friends, Sammy, who has always had a nose for these things. We shared drinks over delicious oysters because, what else do you pair with a good hard cider and well whiskey?
Sammy is a sides girl. She chose the Rueben Egg Rolls, which are corned beef and cabbage rolled up, served with Thousand Island mustard dipping sauce. They renewed my love for trying new things.
I had a classic cheeseburger, everything on it, with a side of fries. I am a firm believer one should try a burger and fries before rating a place. It’s the true test, and Henry’s Place passed with flying colors.
The only thing left on my plate was a few pickles that Sammy was more than happy to finish off. We left with full bellies and happy hearts. Take someone you love and give it a try!
