As a college student, I have come to appreciate money, especially money put toward food. It becomes so easy to let your self-control slip and indulge in sweet treats and fast food.
When you’re on LCC’s main campus, it is important to know your food options. A personal favorite of mine is just a simple five-minute walk down West Shiawassee Street from LCC’s main campus.
Browndog, a delicious American cuisine mini parlor design, is located inside the Lansing Shuffle complex on the corner of Shiawassee and Cedar Street.
Billed as having “ice cream, burgers & boozy shakes,” Browndog’s menu includes the perfect blend of craft burgers and American comfort food, as well as its own array of ice cream flavors. The current menu includes fun holiday flavors of peppermint, gingerbread, “Nog N Snap,” “O Christmas Tree” and more.
I can’t seem to stick to ordering one thing off the menu, so I rotate through. Browndog’s soft Bavarian pretzel sticks, with an array of dipping sauces, are heavenly, though at $13.50 it’s a steep price.
Listed on the menu as “Your New Favorite Grilled Cheese” is a cheddar, mozzarella and provolone sandwich on sourdough bread. Included with a side of house fries, it was up-to-par for a $14 meal.
Browndog’s “boozy options” allows customers to mix and match their ice cream flavors, alcohol and pop choices for the perfect drink. I tend to go for a root beer float only once in a while, seeing as $7.50 can be a bit of an indulgence.
Overall, for a total of about $22, I generally get a delicious, filling meal. I was happy with my most recent visit to Browndog, and will definitely continue to keep it on the table when thinking about where to eat in downtown Lansing.
