The Blue Owl Coffee Company is a coffee shop and bakery that has three locations throughout Lansing.
Blue Owl has locations in Old Town at 1236 Turner St., in East Lansing at 213 Ann St., suite 3, and in REO Town at 1149 S. Washington Ave.
Blue Owl offers many different types of coffee, from your typical coffee drinks to “coffee cocktails,” which are fancier coffees. It also offer a variety of baked goods, and things like granola bars and chips.
I recently went to the location in REO Town. The store was easy to find, but parking was difficult. Blue Owl doesn’t have its own parking, but there is a lot that can be accessed from the road behind the building.
The inside of the shop is what you would expect from a coffee shop; music playing low over the speakers, and your choice of traditional table and chair seating or more comfortable lounge seating. It does offer Wi-Fi as well, so you can bring your work with you.
I got the Dublin’er coffee cocktail and an oatmeal raisin scone. If you’re not a fan of a strong coffee taste, I would not recommend this drink, but I thought it was pretty good. It is made with espresso, cold brew, brown sugar and cinnamon. You can bet I will enjoy any coffee that has cinnamon, and this one did not disappoint.
The oatmeal raisin scone was also very good. I’m normally a little hesitant to try a scone because they tend to be too dry, but Blue Owl’s was as crumbly as any other scone, but not nearly as dry. I enjoyed it and definitely recommend it.
Despite having a list of different baked goods on the menu, the shop only had muffins and scones in the case when I went in. I’m not sure if it had sold most of their baked goods earlier in the day, or if the selection was just limited, but it was a little disappointing.
The person who took my order and made my drink was very kind. I recommend visiting if you’re looking for a place with good coffee and baked goods.
