LCC officials are working hard at creating more food options on campus. Along with rotating seasonal food trucks, students, staff and faculty can find the new Just Baked Smart Bistro vending machines added to the Gannon Building Commons.
Just Baked offers a hot food menu, so no heating is required. Options from cinnamon rolls and donuts, to pasta and dumplings, are available to purchase. Prices range from about $5 to $12 for these items.
“I think the new hot food vending machines are cool, but I do miss having people working in the cafeteria to make us fresh food,” said LCC student Kitana Espinoza.
Espinoza added that some of the options were looking a bit pricey.
Another student, wanting to remain anonymous, expressed deep nostalgia for Einstein’s Bagels and the Subway that used to be in the commons.
“I am really looking forward to the mac n’ cheese,” said Liv Hammond a Transfer Center employee.
“It is a great option for those who are vegetarian, or just in case I forget my lunch that day.”
Before the addition of Just Baked, the LCC commons only had a few coolers of options to choose from. Many people are elated at the idea of a convenient hot lunch, made right in front of them, in two minutes or less.
Outside on the Downtown Campus Mall, the Happy Bowl food truck is parked every Wednesday
From 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. during the fall semester, or until the weather changes. The staff there wants to give students more energizing and nutritious food options to choose from.
“The students and faculty love to have fresh and healthy options available,” said Happy Bowl owner Deb Dillon. “We offer options from all the food groups, not just smoothie bowls. We offer whole-grain toast with a variety of toppings, power smoothies, and simple fruit bowls.”
The prices range from $5 to $12. Drinks like iced coffee, agave sweetened iced tea and flavored sparkling water are available for purchase.
Dallis Floyd, a student waiting in line at Happy Bowl, happily commented on the Açaí Bowls served.
“They are so delicious and sweet, and it is all-natural sugar,” Floyd said. “They taste like a sorbet, and you can get whatever toppings you want on it.”
On Tuesdays, students can find the Big Cheezy Grill food truck from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Check out the menu and prices here.
On Thursdays, the Two Guys Nomadic Grill will serve food from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Click the link for more information.
All the food trucks will be present through the fall semester, or until the weather changes.
