During the most giving time of year, LCC hosted multiple donation drives to support those in need. This included donation staples such as Red Cross, Toys for Tots, and United Way.

Also included in the roster this year was “Giving Tuesday” and a Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) Honor Society food drive.

“’Giving Tuesday’ is an event that the (LCC) Foundation looks forward to participating in, and this year was no exception,” said Amber Stairs, development coordinator for the LCC Foundation.”

Stairs said this year, the foundation supported a brand new donation: the textbook fund.

“Each year, we choose a different fund to support - but this year was different as the textbook fund is a new and necessary venture for students,” Stairs said. “Students regularly report that one of their greatest obstacles to success is the cost of textbooks.

“‘Giving Tuesday’ has wrapped up, but there is still time to make an impact for students through this fund between now and the end of the year.”

For more information on “Giving Tuesday,” or to donate, visit the website here.

Adam Alexander, the PTK International Honor Society Michigan regional officer vice president, said this was PTK’s second consecutive year to have partnered with an LCC program or service to help or host a food drive.

“To explain a bit about our food drive, it was a part of our ‘College Project,’” Alexander said. “Our project was to help increase the engagement throughout the entirety of Lansing Community College, whether this be club-related, center-based or campus-focused. To try and help, as just a single method used, we partnered with our co-advisers Success Coaches Lounge to host a food drive.”

LCC’s donation drives had much success this year, but 2022 is not over yet. For more information, or to continue the giving trend, visit United Way’s LCC website, American Red Cross’ website, or the Toys for Tots’ website.
