On Wednesday, Sept. 28, the powerful Hurricane Ian hit land in Florida as a Category 4 hurricane. In the United States, Ian mostly affected Florida, South Carolina and some parts of Georgia.

Thousands of citizens were told in advance to evacuate the areas of the Florida that would be impacted the most. Most followed the orders, but others either decided not to or were unable to leave.

According to reuters.com, the death toll from Hurricane Ian is at least 106 people, with more than 40,000 people displaced.

Hurricanes, as devastating as they can be, are luckily also things that can be tracked. People are able to have advance warning of the impending storm and are given plenty of time to evacuate.

The Lookout staff agrees it is irresponsible and illogical for those who choose not to evacuate when told to. This not only risks their own lives, but also the lives of those who go in and attempt to rescue them.
