Editorial: Don't let Trump win again!
From The Lookout Staff
With every hour that passes, there is a new dirty secret that comes out about America’s former commander-in-chief, Donald J. Trump. He has now been criminally indicted four times, yet, somehow, remains the front-running Republican candidate.
The Lookout believes this is completely insane, and there should be a law written immediately to stop anyone who is under any sort of criminal investigation from entering the Presidential race.
As a newsroom and as Americans, we cannot let this happen, so, we are speaking out and hoping that you will do the same.
Call your Congress members, tell them this is ridiculous! Let’s at least make a little noise. Our country is at stake and it is our future that these lunatics are deciding.
Trump’s legal troubles continue to pile up, but his base remains disturbingly loyal. These supporters continue to disregard any and all pieces of evidence brought forth by the Department of Justice, whom the GOP formerly trusted whole-heartedly.
It’s time we bring the fear, young people. Our time is now and there has never been more on the line.
Our presence in elections is a right that had to be fought for and, since the voting age was lowered from 21 to 18 in 1971, young people have done some serious damage in elections.
Circle.tufts.edu estimates that 50 percent of young people (ages 18-29) voted in the last election, which is 11 percent better than the election before it. We can still do better than that!
People want to ignore Trump’s crimes because they see his greed as ambition, his ignorance as candor and his criminality as proof of someone who is willing to break the rules to do what is right. However, nothing could be further from the truth.
The Lookout staff believes Trump is a ridiculous con artist who has become terrifyingly dangerous to our democracy because too many of us go to sleep thinking someone else will handle it.
We think his use of classic fascist rhetoric and questionably close relationships with other heinous dictators make it clear how his alliance with the GOP has nothing to do with common values. Instead, it has everything to do with an image that is being “sold” by Trump.
Trump and his base continue to threaten everything that Americans hold dear but, if we work together, read about Trump’s crimes and meet at the ballot boxes, we can defend our country from this tyranny.
