Craft event set for students and staff

LCC is hosting an event called Chill, Craft and Services on Wednesday, Feb. 22 in the Cesar Chavez Learning Center in the Arts and Sciences building.
The event will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. All are welcome.
The idea for the event came when the Arts and Sciences division offices hosted a similar get-together for staff, when LCC returned to campus post-pandemic, as a way to reconnect.
“Some of the staff recommended expanding the event to include more employees and students,” A&S project coordinator Amy Park said. “We reached out to them (Cesar Chavez Learning Center) and suggested adding a service component.”
This month the project will be decorating paper bags with encouraging messages and art on them. The bags will be used for student sack lunches at LCC’s west campus.
“Our messages can encourage students who may need some motivation as we near the middle of the semester,” Parker said.
No experience is needed for students, and those who are experienced crafters will be encouraged to share their knowledge. There have already been donations such as cardstock, stickers, crayons, yarn, crochet hooks and beads.
“We are encouraging attendees to bring their current craft project if they have one,” Parker said. “And to bring some extra supplies if they have some.”
The event was planned before the shooting tragedy that took place at MSU on Feb. 13, but this event is a chance to be a positive experience for students.
Along with the paper-bag projects students, will also have the opportunity to create encouraging cards to share with others.
“We hope that coming together with employees and other students for a bit of fun will brighten people’s day,” Parker said.
