The Student Nurses Association (SNA) at Lansing Community College enhances the development of the nursing students as nursing professionals.

According to the SNA Faculty Adviser Tamara Tasker, the association was established in 1983 for the purpose of uniting nursing students and providing a cohesive source of support throughout their studies at LCC.

“I hope that nursing students see a source of support through the club,” Tasker said. “I also hope that they feel a sense of accomplishment and pride when they are provided with opportunities to volunteer and support the community.”

Tasker shared that the association is not just for nursing majors, but for any student who is in a healthcare related program.

LCC student Marra Allen is a nursing major who is a member of the organization.

“I joined the organization because I wanted to interact with other nursing students outside of the classroom setting,” Allen shared.

Allen talked about her favorite event the organization put together this semester.

“Because of COVID our organization was very limited to what we could do,” Allen said. “Since being back in person we’ve done a few events, but so far my favorite was the scrub sale and raffle. We were able to socialize with peers from different programs.”

Allen said she recommends the organization to any student who is in a healthcare program.

“To have little events you can look forward to during your stressful classes is amazing,” Allen remarked.
