Vinyl record club fun, educational

The Vinyl Record Club at LCC connects with students through the power of music; with an emphasis on sharing vinyl record collections, favorites and information, as well as turntable operation and maintenance.
Dr. Steve Robinson, LCC’s president, is the founder, sponsor and adviser of the Vinyl Record Club.
“I started this club because I’ve been passionate about vinyl records since I was a teenager,” Robinson said. “I noticed that vinyl records have made a huge comeback, particularly with college students.”
All students are welcome to join the monthly meetings hosted by the VRC in the Arts and Sciences Building in room 3311. The next meeting is Thursday, Oct. 20 from 5:30 to 7 p.m.
Whether they share a love of music, want to share their vinyl records, or have curiosity about how records and turntables work, the Vinyl Record Club welcomes all.
The monthly meetings consist of sharing and playing different music, learning about turntables and enjoying pizza, Robinson said.
The club secretary keeps track of the songs played at the meetings and publishes a playlist the next day, according to Robinson.
“I think the club has provided the opportunity for students who share this love of music and interest in vinyl records to expand their musical horizons and learn and grow from each other because it is not about a particular style of music,” Robinson said.
When the club expands its membership, there are plans to curate field trips and visit local records shops around the East Lansing and Lansing area.
