The Japanese Club at Lansing Community College is a community in which students can admire and learn about Japanese culture, according to Club President Nicole Turner.

“The Japanese Club exists to share knowledge about Japanese culture and inspire people to learn about it,” Turner explained. “It's a place where people can come together to share their experiences and gain information.”

The club requires no experience with the language. Members do not have to be enrolled in a Japanese language course.

Anyone interested in the culture can join the club, as it is always accepting new members. Potential members can also attend the biweekly meetings held on Discord on Saturdays beginning at 10 a.m.

LCC student Jonah Coffman has been a member of the club for a year and a half. He said his favorite thing about the club is meeting people who share his same admiration for the culture.

“My favorite event so far was the time we went out to Nagomi restaurant,” Coffman said. “It was the first Japanese restaurant l ever went to and it was a really nice experience.”

The Japanese Club is very welcoming to all levels of skill or knowledge, Coffman said.

“Those nervous about joining the club should know that most members are still studying Japanese,” Coffman said. “Some are on a mission, others just want to chat about anime. You decide what you will contribute to the club, but whatever it is, just have fun.”
