The LCC Career Center is organizing its third professional clothing drive Sept. 18 to Oct. 6, allowing staff and faculty to give a supporting hand to students heading into their careers.
“We started the professional clothing drive in 2022 and held one, both in the fall and spring semester,” said Intern Development Manager Becca Sowa.
The drives brought over 150 donations last year, Sowa said, allowing students to choose from a selection of gently worn tops, jackets, pants, shoes and a few extra items.
“It would help out students who are newly graduated going in into a profession needing professional clothes,” Career Center employee Jeremy Breton explained.
Breton is not alone in that opinion. Others said they feel the importance of having these resources available to students.
“I think it’s important to let students have access to professional clothing for interviews
and their careers after graduation,” Sowa said.
Sources from The Wall Street Journal and BBC News say that “dressing for success” encourages a great first impression with new employers
and helps them to feel strong and confident when arriving to their destination.
Students will have the opportunity to come and see the collection of donations at the Pop-Up Shop Nov. 6 to 17. It is hosted in the Career Center, located in Gannon Building room 2219, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
