Today I came home from the season’s very first camping trip!
As a procrastinator, I knew studying wasn’t going to be on the weekend’s agenda, regardless of if I was home with the internet or not. So we took this weekend to go camping as a quick preliminary camping trip before our longer, farther away ones.
We went to Sleepy Hollow State Park, which is about 30 minutes north of Lansing near a town called Laingsburg, which is where I grew up.
Sleepy Hollow State Park is a great campground. It has loads of trails, a nice beach for swimming and islands to kayak out to. It is also the nearest campground to Lansing, and like 10 minutes or so from my parents’ place.
We wanted somewhere close because this was the first time we ever took both dogs with us camping, as well as it being the first camping trip of the year. If things were forgotten, we were a short drive away from stores, civilization and our house.
Sleepy Hollow is also great because even though it is so close, it still feels like it’s in the middle of nowhere, with no service and no people surrounding the radius.
It was a lot of fun, and the girls did great camping! We realized coming home that our right light on our camper is out, so it was definitely a good thing we took this trip before we left for weeks at a time.
Because our campsite wasn’t too far away, my boyfriend and I invited a bunch of our friends to come out and join us for burgers, hot dogs, bonfires and games at night. We had a ton of fun playing “Uno,” “Beat That” and “Cards Against Humanity” with everyone.
We definitely want to make it a regular occasion to go out to Sleepy Hollow for a weekend and invite our friends to enjoy camping life!
