The Lookout Sports Writer Joey Schwindt recently chatted with LCC cross country runner Tomás Rampe. A sophomore from East Lansing, Rampe attended Lansing Catholic High School.
What was your inspiration for getting involved in cross country?
“I went to a catholic school, and most people around the catholic schools in Lansing
would go to Lansing Catholic. So, I thought if I joined the Lansing Area Catholic
running team; then I would be able to meet other people from nearby middle schools.”
When did you start running cross country?
“I started running cross country in eighth grade and just (began) to love the sport.”
What is your favorite thing about the sport?
“My favorite thing would be running with your teammates out there because you are running
with the same people you work out with, and you (both) know how (difficult) it is,
but you guys are going to fight to the finish together.”
Is there a favorite runner that you have looked up to?
“My favorite runner is (Olympic Bronze Medalist) Yared Neguse because I think he is
a great athlete for sportsmanship, so I really look up to him.”
What is your favorite thing about running at LCC and why?
“My favorite thing about running at LCC is how big our team is and how supportive it
is as well. Every single (teammate) is there for each other and the same thing with
Coach (James) Robinson, who treats everyone like they are the number-one runner, (like)
it doesn’t matter if you are the last guy or the first guy.”
What is your major?
“I’m majoring in business.”
What are your plans after LCC?
“I plan on transferring to Aquinas College next year and running for them.”
