The Lookout Associate Editor/Photo Editor Kaitlyn Delaney recently spoke with LCC basketball player Kara Bartels. The 6-foot-3 freshman center graduated from Zeeland West High School.
When did you start playing basketball?
“I started playing basketball, probably, in seventh grade. I’d say that’s when I got
on my first team, but basketball’s been around in my family forever.”
What is your favorite thing about basketball?
“I really like how when I’m playing the game, I don’t have any concerns about anything
else but what’s going on in the game. It’s nice to have that outlet.”
Who is someone who inspires you, in the sport or out of it?
“Definitely, by biggest inspiration would have to be my aunt. She played in the WNBA,
and I always wanted to be just like her. I definitely looked up to her a lot and I
still do.”
Is there one piece of advice you’ve been given that sticks with you?
“Just play your game. I think I learn a lot from that, just because I get in my own
head, and I’ve just got to play my game.”
Do you have any game-day routines?
“Not really. I just always have to drink an energy drink.”
Do you have any personal or team goals for the rest of the season?
“I think just play as hard as we can and get as far as we can.”
Why did you choose LCC?
“Honestly, I just liked where it was, and thought it would be a good fit for me.”
What are your plans after LCC?
“I don’t know what I’m going to do after LCC. I haven’t decided if I want to go somewhere
else or not yet.”
