The Lookout Staff Writer Jonah Unger spoke with LCC track team member Kalyb VanWormer. The sophomore graduated from DeWitt High School and is majoring in sports medicine at LCC.
What inspired you to get involved in track?
“I would say the biggest inspiration for me when it comes to track was probably my
two older brothers. I started running from a young age, striving to be as fast as
them.”
What events do you take part in for LCC?
“I run the 400-meter, 800-meter and 1,500-meter.”
What is key for your future success in track, and where do you wish to improve?
“I think the key to future success is always off-season training. The success that
is seen in season comes from the work built in the off-season. It's important for
me to stay disciplined.”
What is your favorite thing about track?
“My favorite thing about track is seeing the work you put in pay off. It’s the feeling
of pushing your body to its limits and accomplishing something special. It’s amazing
what people are truly capable of.”
What is your favorite thing about being on the LCC track team?
“By far (it’s) my teammates. I couldn't have asked for better people to compete with
and be around. I’m going to miss this team for sure, but I’ll always cherish the memories.”
What are your plans after LCC?
“I am going to Spring Arbor University next year to continue my track career.”
