The Lookout Photo Editor Kaitlyn Delaney recently spoke with volleyball player Danika Fyan. Fyan is currently a sophomore at LCC, and graduated from Ionia High School.
When did you start playing volleyball?
“I started playing in volleyball, in seventh grade, when it comes to being on a team
and stuff. My sister was in volleyball beforehand, so I started probably when I was
11.”
What is your favorite thing about volleyball?
“Honestly, I think the team aspect. When you get close with everyone, you have a bond
you don’t really get normally. You’re all working toward something, and it’s just
really fun to be a part of.”
Do you have any moments from playing volleyball that stand out?
“I would say, from this year especially, winning districts stuck out really far. Just
in the sense of, we made history. I had a couple moments in high school where it was
the same situation. … One year we won districts, and we won league champs the other
year. That stuck out really well.”
Is there one piece of advice you’ve been given that sticks out with you?
“My sister always told me “don’t say you can’t.” She was a very big advocate on, if
you say you can’t, you have to run. So I think that honestly was one of the biggest
pieces of advice that has stuck with me since being young. Just believing in myself.”
Do you have any game-day routines?
“I normally get a Scuba from Biggby, and I normally get cupped. Every game day, I
usually get a cup done somewhere. Just because it’s kind of a good luck superstition.”
If you weren’t a volleyball player, what sport would you have played?
“I probably would have done some sort of track, or basketball. I played basketball
when I was younger. As I got older, I just became more volleyball related, just because
I wanted to take it seriously.”
What are your plans after LCC?
“As of right now, I plan on transferring somewhere else. I’m not sure where yet, but
I want to go play volleyball somewhere else and get my bachelor’s in business.”
