Staff Writer Jonah Unger recently spoke to Katelyn Whiteman, a sophomore LCC volleyball player. She graduated from Holt High School in 2020.
What is your major?
"I am working toward my general associate (degree) from LCC to fulfill prerequisites
for a four-year degree."
When did you start playing volleyball?"
I started playing volleyball when I was about 10 years old, and was on my first school
team when I was in seventh grade."
What are your goals as a player?
"I had a few goals for myself throughout the season but now that it has ended my new
goal is to transfer to a four-year (college) and continue playing."
What is your favorite thing about playing for LCC?
"My favorite thing about playing for LCC was always the teammates I had. I made some
amazing new friends and made so many good memories with them. "
What is your favorite thing about volleyball?
"It’s hard to pick just one thing to be my favorite because there are so many aspects
of volleyball that I love. But I would have to say that the competition and the challenge
that volleyball brings has to be my favorite."
What are your plans after college?"
Right now my plan post-LCC is to transfer to a four-year university to pursue a degree
in the literary field because I am interesting in book publishing."
