The Lookout Photo Editor Kaitlyn Delaney recently spoke with LCC volleyball player Katelynn Davis. Davis graduated from Charlotte High School and is currently a freshman at LCC.
When did you start playing volleyball?
“I started in middle school … I think it was seventh grade. I started doing all of
these little camps and stuff.”
What is your favorite thing about volleyball?
“The people that it’s brought me, probably. The connections and friends that I’ve
received from volleyball, I wouldn’t be able to get anywhere else. It means a lot
to me.”
Do you have any moments from playing volleyball that stand out?
“Probably this past weekend (Nov. 3 and 4), for sure. We won our regional championship.
It’s really exciting, just the community around it, the feel that it gives me is just
amazing. Probably club in general, too. Travelling is really nice, and the connections.”
Is there one piece of advice you’ve been given that sticks out with you?
“My middle school club coach, something she told me once that really stood out was
that volleyball is a place where I can go if anything else in the world is going on.
Like, stressful, something is bothering me, playing volleyball is somewhere I can
go to relieve that and take everything off. Reset, not have to worry about it.”
Do you have any personal or team goals for the rest of the season?
“It would be cool to win nationals, for sure. But we’re looking to have fun … too,
so either or.”
Do you have any game-day routines?
“I’m usually get home getting ready. I always do bubble braids. That’s one thing that
I always have to do with my hair. Always locker room, get hyped. Our team has a new
song from ‘Rio’ that we listen to called ‘Hot Wings.’ We always listen to that before
every game. We listened to it before every game at districts.”
If you weren’t a volleyball player, what sport would you have played?
“Well, my brother is 6-foot-7, and I think I would have gotten into basketball, but
I’ve always wanted to play lacrosse.”
What are your plans after LCC?
“I would like to do marketing in the sports realm, and advertising, so maybe like
the NFL or somewhere like that.”
