'Afrofest' among area happenings

This week there will be some fun and lively events for Lansing area residents to enjoy. Here are just a few of the fun events going on:

Capital AfroFest is a two-day event running Friday and Saturday, Sept. 23 and 24 on South Washington Square in downtown Lansing. This event is hosted by Tatse, 221 S. Washington Square, an African restaurant serving local and healthy African-inspired meals.

This event is meant to put a spotlight on African representation, connection and celebration.

Capital AfroFest starts at 10 a.m. Friday and runs into the wee hours of the morning, with the AfroFest party starting at 11 p.m. that night.

Saturday’s events will begin again at 10 a.m. with another AfroFest party, this time starting at 1 a.m. (technically Sunday morning).

Taiwo Adeleye, Tatse’s owner, explained the purpose of AfroFest.

“AfroFest is a celebration of the African culture, of my culture, and I want to share that with the Lansing community,” Adeleye said. “My goal from the very beginning, when Tatse was only a ghost kitchen, was to enrich the community of Lansing with a true representation of my African culture and heritage.”

Oktoberfest Dinner Pairing is a one-day event at Looking Glass Brewery on Wednesday, Sept. 21 from 7 to 9 p.m. Tickets run around $45 per person.

The price includes five flight glass pours of select craft beers and ciders, paired with a five-course Oktoberfest meal.

TGIF Party is a weekly Friday party hosted by the Hawk Hollow Golf Course, located at 15101 Chandler Road in Bath. Partygoers can pay a small fee of $20 to enjoy a large dance floor, dance lessons, and drinks.
