Since
1997, Mike Stratton has been bringing LCC Radio
listeners one of Michigan’s longest running jazz
programs,
Vinyl Side of Midnight. Over the years, Mike
has recorded a number of his shows and now LCC Radio is
pleased to bring you a weekly segment we’ve been calling
“The Vinyl Side Rewind”, featuring archived editions of
the VSM. In addition, after the “Vinyl Side Rewind”,
we’re also featuring an additional two hours of jazz
leading up to midnight! Vinyl Side of Midnight,
it's a jazz program for and by the jazz fan.
A Weekly Reggae Excursion to the Islands
If
you’re ready to escape reality for a little while, we’ve
got 89.7 tickets to paradise! The reggae tradition spans
hundreds of years and has influenced countless musicians
since its inception. Every Sunday starting at 7 p.m.,
Paul Vetne brings that sound to LCC Radio with The
Positive Vibe Soundsystem. It’s a weekly excursion
to the islands with a solid mix of reggae, ska,
rocksteady, dub, Latin, and AfroBeat.. Lift your vibes
with The Positive Vibe Soundsystem. And
seriously, who couldn’t use some positive vibes these
days?
Start the Week on a Blue Note
Since
WLNZ’s earliest days, jazz has always been a part of our
lineup. Born in the south with its origins based in
blues and ragtime, this improvisational based musical
art form has gone from underground roots to worldwide
love and acceptance. Its growth has created a number of
subgenres like straight ahead, bop, Latin, and smooth
jazz. Starting at 8 a.m. every Sunday, you can hear all
these styles and more. Start the week on a "blue note"
with LCC Radio and Sunday Morning Jazz.
Get into the Swing with Jim Stone
Every
week Jim Stone's Big Band Swing takes listeners
on a two hour journey back in time where "swing Is king"
and when "big band" meant BIG BAND! As a huge fan of
swing music and old time radio, Jim has literally
archived 1000s of exclusive interviews, live recordings,
and nostalgic radio and television moments. He shares
this expansive collection with listeners every week
alongside the likes of Benny Goodman, Glenn Miller,
Woody Herman, Count Basie, Louis Prima, Billie Holiday,
and Ella Fitzgerald. If it swings, it's on
Big Band Swing!
LCC Radio is Working to Bring Back Your Favorites
In
March of 2020, LCC Radio temporarily suspended its
regular programming and we have been running our daily
AAA format on a 24-7 basis. We are doing this to
assure the safety of our employees, volunteers, and
guests of the station. Now, as we move into 2021, we are
working towards bringing back some of your favorite
shows and will make announcements as they return. Visit
us here at our website or check us out on
Facebook and
Twitter to keep posted on what shows will be
returning. Thank you for listening.
AAA Music on 89.7 FM
Our
Adult Album Alternative (AAA) format is for people who
enjoy
true variety in music. At a quick glance, AAA
primarily walks the line between alternative and pop.
However, LCC Radio's playlist spans decades and contains
more genres than the average radio station. On any given
day, you can hear blues, soul, rock, indie, electronica,
country, hip hop, R&B, jazz, world beat and a lot more.
Plus, as a part of our commitment to supporting the
local music scene, we blend in a number of past and
present musicians connected to Michigan.
Acoustic Café
It’s
hard to put a definitive label on Acoustic Café’s
music selections, any individual set could contain a bit
of country, rock, blues, folk, or pop. Hosted by Rob
Reinhart, the show was launched in the early 90's during
the surge of “unplugged” music sessions that artists
were producing. Acoustic Café
often features live in-studio guests, giving listeners
the opportunity to catch performances that can't be
heard anywhere else. Based in Ann Arbor, LCC Radio is
proud to feature Acoustic Café as a part our
local and Michigan based programming.
ANGST!
The
word angst is defined as “a feeling of dread or deep
anxiety” but it takes on a whole new meaning when Otis
Elle fires up ANGST! From Alice in Chains to
The Sex Pistol and The Cramps to Nirvana;
ANGST! is a high energy, wild ride fueled by
classic and new punk, folk-punk, New Wave, 90's
alt-rock, grunge, and some weird stuff (like Frank
Zappa, Lawnmower Death, and 'Weird' Al Yankovic) thrown
in just for the punk of it. Join us as we, in the words
of the MC5, "Kick out the Jaaaams!" with ANGST!
Art of the Song
Whether
it be music, writing, visual arts, or just living your
life as a work of art. Art of the Song is a
radio program that explores universal truths common to
all creative expression;, Program hosts, John Dillon and
Viv Nesbitt, describe Art of the Song as a
"creative coffeehouse" with the goal of "...expressing
our creativity and thus our spiritual nature...through
music and discussion about songwriting and the creative
process...we are all creative and that it is not only
possible, but imperative that each and all of us express
our creative voices.”
Big Band Swing
Every
week Jim Stone's Big Band Swing takes listeners
on a two hour journey back in time where "swing Is king"
and when "big band" meant BIG BAND! As a huge fan of
swing music and old time radio, Jim has literally
archived 1000s of exclusive interviews, live recordings,
and nostalgic radio and television moments. He shares
this expansive collection with listeners every week
alongside the likes of Benny Goodman, Glenn Miller,
Woody Herman, Count Basie, Louis Prima, Billie Holiday,
and Ella Fitzgerald. If it swings, it's on
Big Band Swing!
The Blues Beat
Although
the concept of the blues has remained the same since its
inception, most forms of blues are open to endless
interpretations, lyrically and musically. Join LCC Radio
weeknights for The Blues Beat. It is a long
running Capital City favorite that explores traditional
blues to contemporary and classic R&B to neo-soul.
You'll also find a diverse mix of blues variations
including alt-rock, classic rock, country, hip hop, and
jazz; all topped off with a blend of local flavor from
blues artists connected to the Great Lakes State.
Blues Before Sunrise
Steve
Cushing's long-running radio program Blues Before
Sunrise takes listeners back to the origins of the
great American genre known as blues. His nationally
syndicated and award-winning program focuses on vintage
blues and R&B from a historical perspective. For
decades, Steve has served as anchor of WBEZ's nationwide
broadcast of the Chicago Blues Festival, performs
frequently as a drummer, and has produced several
recordings by Magic Slim, Lurrie Bell, and Smokey
Smothers. It's a blues history lesson with Blues
Before Sunrise.
The BlueROCK
It's
been said that "without the blues there would be no
rock". It's true, blues is the foundation of rock 'n'
roll, but what happens when the two come together?
That's what The BlueROCK is all about
- blues that rocks out a bit harder and rock with a
blues feel. Each week, host Daedalian Lowry uncovers
hidden gems and well known favorites from Led Zeppelin,
Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Luther Allison, Lil'
Ed & the Blues Imperials, Joe Bonamassa, Kenny Wayne
Shepherd, plus the new generation of performers like
Alabama Shakes and J.D. McPherson.
CABS Radio
The
Capital Area Blues Society (CABS) has been dedicated
to preserving the tradition of blues music in
Mid-Michigan since 1995. As a nonprofit, CABS produces
and coordinates a number of well known annual events
such as
Breaking Bread with the Blues, CABS Blues
Brawl, Beale Street Sendoff, and along
with
MICA, the
Michigan BluesFest. It only makes sense that
Lansing's favorite blues preservation group would
connect with the station playing more blues than anyone
else on the radio dial.
Coffee Break Morning Show
Since
2001, 89.7FM has been proud to provide Mid-Michigan with
the original Coffee Break Morning Show. The
goal of the program; provide a platform for Lansing
based organizations to "get the word out" about
happenings within our community. On a monthly basis, the
show hosts over 100 nonprofit organizations from the
central Michigan region. On any given day, you can hear
from breadth of community members such as authors,
artists, musicians, teachers, community leaders, and
politicians. Find out more at our
Coffee Break webpage.
Daebak Korean Radio
K-pop
can be traced back to the early 90s, the term itself has
been popularized since the 2000s. Although it generally
indicates "popular music" within South Korea, the term
is often used in a narrower sense to describe a modern
form of South Korean pop that is influenced by styles
and genres from around the world, such as experimental,
jazz, hip hop, R&B, reggae, electronic dance, country,
and classical on top of its traditional Korean music
roots. Join host, Matthew Zak, for Daebak Korean Radio,
an entire hour dedicated to the K-Pop genre.
Eclecticana
Americana
is a contemporary music genre that incorporates elements
of American roots music styles, including country,
roots-rock, folk, bluegrass, R&B and blues.
Lansing-based musician, Jen Sygit expands on that
concept with her show, Eclecticana. As the name
would imply, Jen mixes a diverse group of musicians with
Americana at the base. Plus, she keeps listeners posted
on local festivals and concerts, new albums, and as a
musician herself, she very often shares unique stories
behinds the artists she plays.
eTown
Building
better communities and creating environmental awareness
through music, that’s the main goal of eTown.
Although the show is based out of Boulder, Colorado, the
conversations and information shared revolve around
subjects that are relative to Mid-Michigan (or any
American community) as well. Every program is taped in
front of a live audience and features performances from
many of today's top musical artists. Beyond musicians,
eTown
also features a variety of guests including authors,
activists, and politicians.
Fiesta de Musica & Latino USA
Sundays
brings some international flavor to the WLNZ with
Rosa’s Fiesta de Musica and Latino USA.
Each week kicks off with Latino USA, a news
program featuring the information and news pertinent to
the Latino community. Then, Rosa Martinez (a.k.a. The
Rose) follows up with a healthy mix of tejano, ranchera,
mariachi, cumbia, salsa, vallenato, and more. Although
primarily based on the musical heritage of Mexico, The
Rose also includes other branches connected to the Latin
culture as well as regional musicians from the Great
Lakes area..
Grand River Studio Sessions
In
2005, WLNZ began its popular Grand River Radio
Concert Series, a monthly concert showcasing
talented musicians from the Great Lakes region at unique
venues around Lansing. Three years later, it became a
weekly acoustic show and live broadcast known as the
Grand River Radio Diner. Then in 2014, we
reinvented the concept once again with the Grand
River Studio Sessions, a visual-audio program that
can be heard on LCC Radio and seen on
LCC-TV.

Take
a walk along the shores of Michigan's Great Lakes, visit
the lush pine forests or wander the streets of small
town (or big city) America through the sounds of country
music. Great Lakes Country features classic
country, pop country, and country rock. And since
country music stems from the world of folk music, we
also blend in traditional folk, pop folk, blues, and
some of Michigan's best singer-songwriters. No matter
what you hear, each and every artist on Great Lakes
Country can draw roots back to back to the Great

Jazz & Blues Connex
Long
time listeners of LCC Radio most likely can recall when
we began as “Lansing’s Source for Jazz, Blues, & News”.
Although our music base has expanded since then, jazz
and blues are still a big part of what we do. These two
genres are incorporated into our daily AAA programming,
and you can listen to a number of specialty shows on LCC
Radio including Jazz ‘n’ Blues Connex, a
non-stop hour of music that brings together two of
America’s greatest and most influential musical
innovations.

the Mid-Michigan music scene and across the state. From
local preservation groups like
Ten Pound Fiddle and local venues like
The Avenue Cafe, and
The Green Door, Lansing Loud & Local keeps
you posted.
The Local Experiment
Imagine
taking every single Michigan artist you can think of,
putting them into one playlist, and then hitting random
play. That’s what we do every week with The Local
Experiment. We’ve compiled every single song we
have in our Michigan music library and then we just hit
the random button to see what comes up. From jazz to
metal, folk to hip hop, reggae to country - what else
could we call it but The Local Experiment.

theme like “70s Dance Hits,” “80s Movie Music” or “Rock
of the 90s”. Mark also incorporates live trivia during
the show on his Facebook page so you can play and listen
at the same time. Grab your bellbottoms, diamond studded
glove, and a flannel shirt...not all together, that'd be
bad fashion sense...and join the party every Saturday
night!
