ENGAGE Family Day at Lansing Community College

August 26, 2017

LANSING, MICH. - Families are important to a student's success, and Lansing Community College hosted the ENGAGE Family Day Saturday, August 26 on the LCC Mall at the main campus in Lansing to support families and student success.

"A student can best succeed when the student's family is supportive and aware of all of the college resources that are available," said Dr. Lisa Webb Sharpe, Senior Vice President of Finance, Administration & Advancement. "Students that become engaged, who ask questions, and who build relationships with their faculty are taking charge of their own education, and setting themselves up for success."

Fall semester at LCC started on Thursday, and ENGAGE Family Day is just one of the many Welcome Week events planned. This fun event offered live student bands, free BBQ, outdoor games, face-painting, and photos. LCC staff gave tours to students and their families, so students will be familiar with the location of their classes, and know the many resources that can help them succeed.

"The draw today may be the free food," said Alayne Ingram, Associate Dean of Student Affairs, "but most students tell us they are surprised when they learn of the many ways that LCC supports students."

Dr. Chris Lewis, Dean of Student Affairs, pointed out the many resource tables lined along the mall sidewalk, staffed with LCC employees ready to answer student questions. "LCC Success Coaches, advisors, and all of the many student support services are ready to help students with the many questions they face when school starts."

On Monday, students at LCC can take part in a Student Life Open House and a "Discover the Keys To Success" campus Scavenger Hunt. Tuesday is Spirit Day at LCC. Wednesday is "Party with the Prez," with food, music, and games on the LCC mall. Thursday LCC will host a Campus Resource and Student Organization Fair. All during the upcoming week there will be student employment events and free popcorn.

Channel 10 News was on hand to record the ENGAGE Family Day event.
