Lesson 9: Lesson Planning
Lesson plans aid in the organization and delivery of daily lessons. They can vary widely in terms of style and specificity. Regardless of the format, they aid teachers in the development of strategies and methods that will help students accomplish the learning outcomes. While there are basic elements of a lesson plan, it should be modified to suit the needs of the individual teacher. Finally, even teachers who design highly detailed lesson plans rarely follow them in a lock-step fashion. It is important to be flexible and "go with the flow," taking advantage of "teaching/learning moments." Hence, view the lesson plan not as a blueprint but as a guide which can change given the classroom interaction, dynamics, etc. Don't let the lesson plan stifle the students' creativity or yours.
