Academic Success Coach

I have come to understand that education is more than just a degree or certificate to finish and put behind me. Instead, education is an opportunity to accelerate personal development, expand critical thinking skills, and learn new ways to engage in a dynamic global world.

I completed my Associates Degree in Human Services in 2005 at Lansing Community College. Once I completed my Associates, I entered the full time workforce where I developed a career foundation specializing in serving individuals who are homeless and/or survivors of domestic violence. In 2007 I gave away all of my personal belongings and left my full time career to travel around the world. Finally, in 2009 I returned to higher education. I completed my Bachelor's degree in Sociology with a minor in Race, Gender, Ethnicity, and History at Michigan State University. Then in 2015, I finished my Master’s Degree in Sociology, where I concentrated on race, gender, and social welfare policies.

In pursuing my academic and career goals, I encountered many twists, turns, unforeseen challenges, as well as unexpected opportunities. Mentors and student supportive programs, such as TRIO, have made the greatest difference in my life. I have benefited greatly from having a network of academic mentors, supportive faculty, and student services to empower me at every level of my educational pursuit. I have been more successful than I ever thought possible thanks to all the support that I have received throughout my academic career. For this reason, I am incredibly passionate about student engagement and I could not be more excited to be a part of the LCC Success Coach team!
