Regional Science Olympiad for Grades 6-12
Regional Science Olympiad (RSO) took place at Lansing Community College on Saturday, March 15, 2014. Science Olympiad is a national rigorous standards-based science competition with yearly rotating events, always representing the various components of STEM education. Teams of up to 15 students compete in events testing knowledge in areas as wide-ranging as bird identification to Laser shoots, and from bridge building to Mag-Lev vehicle construction. Scores are accumulated in all events with the top teams moving on to state level competition in May. The 2013 winners at the middle school level were Holt Junior High (1st place), Washington Woods Middle School (2nd place) and Haslett Middle School (3rd place); at the high school level Holt High School captured the 1st place spot while Haslett High School placed 2nd and Okemos High School 3rd.
