Honors Program Awards

Lansing Community College offers Honors Program Awards to new students who:

  • Have demonstrated outstanding academic achievement
  • Plan to complete a two-year transfer curriculum at LCC and transfer to a four-year institution to pursue a bachelor's degree (Common transfer majors may be found at Associate in Arts/Associate in Science Degrees.)
  • Want to be an active participant in the LCC Honors Program

The Honors Program Award

  • Covers a maximum of five semesters over a period of two consecutive years
  • Up to $1,395 in tuition and fees each fall and spring semester
  • $382 for an optional summer semester (at least three approved credits required)
  • Renewal each semester is contingent upon the recipient meeting all award requirements.

An award recipient must:

  • Be a citizen or permanent resident of the U.S.
  • Be considered an 'in-district' resident.  For more information regarding residency requirements visit www.lcc.edu/schedule/residency
  • Be a high school graduate
  • Have a cumulative high school grade point average of at least 3.2
  • Have a composite ACT score of at least 20 or college-level reading, writing, and mathematical skills as determined by LCC basic skills test

Selection is based on:

  • Grade point average
  • ACT scores
  • Proven ability in the selected area of study
  • Letters of reference and a written personal statement
  • Students will be notified if an audition or portfolio is required.

Additional Application Requirements

  • ACT scores or college-level reading, writing, and math skills as determined by LCC basic skills tests.

Lansing Community College Honors Program

Honors Program Award recipients automatically become members of the LCC Honors Program and must participate as a condition of the award.

The Honors Program provides:

  • Enriched courses
  • Special advising services
  • Community service options
  • Enhanced learning opportunities for students capable of a special challenge in higher education.

Honors Program Requirements

In order to maintain their membership in the Honors Program and retain their Honors Program Award, students must:

  • Follow an approved LCC transfer curriculum.

  • Maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.2 or higher.

  • Successfully complete at least twelve approved credits fall and spring semesters.

  • Summer session enrollment is optional. Summer session enrollment requires at least three approved credits.

  • Successfully complete at least three Honors courses (listed below) each academic year.

  • Submit their proposed class schedules for approval before registering each semester.

Honors Program Courses

All Honors courses require program or department approval prior to registration. You may be eligible for some courses automatically by virtue of your Honors Program membership. For others, you must meet certain departmental qualifications (e.g., basic skill levels or satisfactory completion of prerequisite courses). If you have questions about specific Honors courses, please contact the instructor, department, or program offering the course.
