Paint the Commons Red
Equal Pay Day 2017
WHEN: Tuesday, April 4, 2017 - 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m.
WHERE: Gannon Commons
WHY: In the U.S., working women make an average of 80 cents for every dollar men make.
For women of color, that disparity is even higher. And in Michigan, it's worse – women make an average
of 74 cents for every dollar men make.
At LCC, women make an average of 96.7 cents for every dollar men make.
Equal Pay Day is a day dedicated to awareness, symbolizing how far into 2017 women have to work
to make as much as men did in 2016. This year, it falls on April 4.
Learn more about myths around the pay gap from the
National Organization for Women, and about
how the pay gap is calculated, studies examining different potential causes, and how the gap affects
women of different demographics from the
American Association of University Women's.
WHAT TO EXPECT: Help us Paint the Commons Red in recognition of Equal Pay Day! We'll gather in the
Gannon Commons for lunch and fellowship. Make sure to wear red for our group photo! We'll take it around 12:15 or 12:30 p.m.
You can bring or buy your own lunch, but the LCC Women's Network will provide red cupcakes and red awareness buttons.
MARK YOUR CALENDARS: Our summer breakfast event is scheduled for Friday, June 9, 2017.
