Instructional Planner, Extension and Community Education
As an instructional planner I enjoy my work in developing an array of classes and learning opportunities for a variety of people. For example, in LCC’s “Learning for Life” community education program we have classes for adults in things like art, computer technology, music and travel, photography, finance…what we call personal enrichment and professional development classes.
The college also offers special classes for second through eighth graders. In Fall and Spring Semesters we have a program for gifted and talented students – the GATE Saturday School – designed for youth with outstanding academic ability. And in the summer a long list of classes are available through open enrollment in LCC’s A+ Summer Youth Programs, aimed at students who want challenges above and beyond regular school requirements.
Given our resources in teachers, staff, and facilities, LCC is the perfect vehicle to deliver this kind of education. Our goal is to provide students of all ages a chance to learn for the pure joy of it. No tests, no pressure…just fun, excitement, and learning.
I enjoy matching up students with these hands-on, minds-on learning experiences. And it’s wonderful to see the end results, like making a video, speaking a new language, or exhibiting a piece of artwork. But it can mean even more. Sometimes these classes change lives. Students of any age can find out something about themselves, build self-confidence and direction, and realize they are good at something they didn’t think they could do.
