March 20, 2017
LANSING, MICH. - Career seekers looking to go from learners to earners can try on options for size at the Lansing Community College (LCC) Technical Careers Open House on Thursday, March 23, from 5 to 8 p.m. at LCC’s West Campus.
Attendees can explore programs and training opportunities in technical disciplines that include applied manufacturing, computer information technologies, design and construction, public service, and transportation maintenance. Information will also be available about high-tech, industry-supported training for skilled workers through LCC's Center for Manufacturing Excellence.
Faculty and staff will be on hand to answer questions about tech career programs and student services, while current students and alumni can attend to share insights or discover additional options. All attendees are invited to get a glimpse of the state-of-the-art classrooms, labs and facilities at LCC's West Campus.
Recent graduates and twins Brandon and Steve Packer recently shared their story about building careers in advanced manufacturing through the LCC Apprenticeship Program. The two were sponsored by Lansing's Demmer Corporation and were mentored by an experienced tradesperson on-the-job.
"The LCC Apprenticeship Program really took us to another level," says Steve. "There are so many opportunities working in the industry. It's much more than just another job."
Jayne Snider attests to the value of the hands-on training and education she is receiving through LCC's Aviation Technology Program.
"LCC has fantastic facilities and lots of great training tools," says Snider, one of just four women in the LCC program. "Having great equipment to work on is exciting and gives me a great base to succeed in the industry."
About three years ago, Eric Acevedo graduated from the LCC Police Academy and found the power to launch a career in law enforcement.
"The academy was definitely hard and challenging," says Acevedo, who works as an officer through the Michigan State University Police Department. "But it was worth it. The things I do and situations I encounter today are very similar to the training I had at LCC. The college definitely prepared me to do what I do."
