The best thing about library instruction for me is that students have the opportunity to do "hands on" in the library sessions. This is totally awesome. I can not image a better way for students to learn how to locate credible information in the hundreds of online resources the library makes available. I also really enjoy teaching students the tricks of the trade for putting together a search strategy and I love it when they tell me they get it!

What brings joy to my "library instruction" heart is helping people connect to the information they seek. I truly enjoy empowering LCC students & employees with the knowledge of how they can use common search tools like GOOGLE more effectively & efficiently. And It is truly rewarding to help people help themselves in a sea of information.

My favorite part of library instruction is the questions students ask and the fascinating discussions that often result.

The most enjoyable aspect of library instruction for me is to hear students (as they leave a session) say, "Thanks, this really helped." To receive an unsolicited remark like that reminds me that my willingness to try new teaching techniques, that the support from great LCC library instructor colleagues and that of great LCC faculty, and my preparation for library instruction can lead to very satisfying rewards.

There are two things that I most enjoy about instructing students and they both reflect the ultimate
goal of a relatively self-sufficient information seeker. First, I really enjoy when I give some basic instructions and the student says, "Thanks, I can take it from here." Even better is when I give some instruction, suggest some search strategies, get a student thinking about brainstorming ideas, and at one point or another it all clicks for them and they say, "Oh, I get it!"; It's those "a-ha"; moments that make it all worth while. If I can leave them feeling capable of navigating our library resources and feeling comfortable returning for more help later on, then I know I've done my job well.

I like teaching library research skills because I get the chance to help LCC students become independent learners. Once you know how to find and evaluate information, you are ready to teach yourself about anything, even after your time at LCC is over.
