CURRICULUM GUIDE

Fire Science Technology
Associate in Applied Science Degree

Curriculum Code: 0123 (Effective Fall 2003 - Summer 2008)

This degree program provides students with three options to pursue a fire
service career area. The first option, or subchoice, provides an individual
with the flexibility to continue their educational process to a four-year fire
science program. The National Fire Academy's intent is to align all two-year
degree granting fire science programs with institutions that provide a four-
year fire science degree. The second option follows a general fire service
career path and meets the state standards of the Michigan Fire Fighter
Training Council's Fire Fighter I and II certification process. This option
consists of selective admissions to the Regional Fire Training Center at
Lansing Community College. The third option enhances the promotional
opportunities for the veteran fire service employee. Courses provide a
versatile approach to fire service management. Not all courses in this program
transfer to all colleges. Students planning to transfer should see an
academic advisor or counselor before enrolling in any course.

Students should see Course Descriptions or Course Offerings for course
prerequisite information. See the Assessment and Placement Testing section
for skills assessment and advising information.
