Placement Testing

Computerized Placement Tests (CPT's) are the basic skills tests that all LCC students take in order to be placed into classes. Most tests are completed online through Accuplacer Online; however, a select few are pen and paper tests. Most tests are roughly 20 questions long, and one test can generally be completed in about a half an hour. Based on the results of the tests, students are assigned a math, reading and writing level. These levels are then used by Counseling and Advising to help students find which classes are right for them.  Students with high ACT or SAT scores, previous college coursework in English, or a completed college degree may be eligible to waive Reading and Writing placement tests.  Students who have successfully completed Intermediate Algebra or higher with in the previous two years may be eligible to waive the Math placement test.  For information, visit the Waiver Team homepage at www.lcc.edu/advising/waivers.aspx

Reading and Writing CPT

The Reading Placement test is called the Reading Comprehension test. The Reading LOEP (Level of English Proficiency) is called the LOEP Reading Skills test.

The Writing Placement test is called the Sentence Skills test. There are two LOEP writing tests called the LOEP Sentence Meaning test and the LOEP Language Usage test.

All Reading and Writing Placement tests are administered online.
